Burn Injury Litigation
Burn injuries are some of the most painful injuries you can sustain. These catastrophic injuries affect a wide range of systems in the damaged area, including the skin, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and bone. In many instances, the disfigurement commonly associated with burn injuries can result in psychological and emotional scarring that affects the victim for years.

Types of Burn Injuries
There are three different types of burn injuries, and they are classified according to the extent of tissue damage and depth of the burn:
- First Degree Burns – First degree burns are relatively mild and only affect the surface of your skin. In most instances, tissue damage will be minor. First degree burns often result in redness, swelling, and mild-to-moderate pain.
- Second Degree Burns – With a second degree burn, both the surface skin and underlying dermal layer are damaged. These injuries can be very painful. Common symptoms include swelling, redness, blistering of the skin, and infection. In many instances, a skin graft is required in order to completely heal. Failure to treat the condition can cause the burn to increase in severity.
- Third Degree Burns – These are the most serious category of burn injury. Third degree burns affect all layers of your skin and in many cases, the underlying bone and connective tissue sustain extensive damage. Since nerve endings are often destroyed by these burn injuries, you may not experience as much pain as is commonly associated with a second degree burn. Recovery time after a third degree burn is very long, and victims often experience significant disfigurement which requires reconstructive surgery.
