An older Jeep caught fire while driving on the 2100 block of Lake Drive Key Peninsula South, near Palmer Lake. According to witnesses, flames coming up from under the dashboard prevented the driver, an unidentified man in his 30s, from unbuckling his seatbelt and leaving the vehicle.
The driver suffered burn injuries over 70 percent of his body. After extraction from the vehicle, he was airlifted to a burn center in Seattle. The cause of this car fire is still under investigation, but two passengers said issues with the fuel pump were impacting the vehicle before flames erupted.
