NCAA Brain Injury Settlement

By August 21, 2014February 9th, 2017Brain Injury

The NCAA has announced a settlement of brain injury lawsuits regarding concussions in college athletics. The settlement provides $70 million for medical testing of current and former athletes. It does not provide compensation for victims of brain injury sustained during collegiate contact sports.

This settlement is the latest in a string of lawsuits filed against professional and college athletic associations alleging the dangers of head injury have been severely downplayed or overlooked. Most recently, a class-action lawsuit has been filed against the NHL for failure to properly warn players of the long-term consequences of brain injury.
